Contact:
The Badly Bent is a high energy traditional Bluegrass Band based in
Durango, Colorado. The band features tight lead and harmony vocals,
award winning pickin’ and a warm friendly stage presence. The
band members are:
Bill Adams (Resonator Guitar) Born and raised in Greenville, South
Carolina, he currently lives in Durango CO. Bill was exposed to country
and Bluegrass music early in life. He taught himself to play guitar
in the early 70’s from books and listening to southern rock, country,
blues and even some Bluegrass. Bill finally pursued his dream instrument,
the resonator guitar (or Dobro) in 1992. He credits Tut Taylor, Jerry
Douglas, Mike Auldridge and Rob Ickes as his major musical influences.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, Bill is now a serious student
of the pedal steel guitar.
Robb Brophy (Mandolin, Vocals) Robb was born in Pueblo, Colorado and
has lived most of his life in the west. He currently resides in Durango
CO. Robb took up the banjo as a teenager with influences including The
Eagles, Poco and Mason Prophet. Bluegrass was an easy transition from
there and interest in the guitar and mandolin soon followed. He holds
an Associates of Arts Degree in Bluegrass Music from South Plains College
in Levelland, Texas. Robb says, "Bluegrass has always been an important
part of my life and playing with The Badly Bent is just another excellent
adventure."
Patrick Dressen (Guitar, Bouzouki, Vocals) Pat is a South Dakota Native
but he got to Colorado as soon as he could (1967). He currently resides
in Ignacio. A multi-instrumentalist, Pat won the Colorado Flatpicking
Guitar Championship in 1991 and the Rocky Mountain Mandolin Championship
in 1994. He started playing drums as a kid and switched to guitar in
his teens due to folk influences like Dave Van Ronk and The Jim Kweskin
Jug Band. Pat has played in several bands in the Durango CO area including
The Wild Geese, The Rusty Razor Band, The Marmot Mudflaps and Heart
& Soul.
Mark Epstein (Banjo, Vocals) Mark is a native of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was nominated 1997 Colorado Banjo Player of the Year. Mark has been
playing Bluegrass and acoustic music for 25 years in such bands as The
Edge City Ramblers, On and On, The Untied String Ensemble and Fret Knot.
One of his most recent accomplishments was as guest banjoist with the
San Juan Symphony Orchestra. Mark now resides full time in Durango CO
and is owner/operator of Canyon
Music.
Jeff Hibshman (bass) Jeff is an original member of the Badly Bent who
left to pursue other interests elsewhere in the State of Colorado. Now,
Jeff has returned to Durango CO full time and we are very happy to have
him back as the Bent’s bass player. Jeff is a master bass and
guitar player and has played with many of Colorado’s well-known
bands and musicians, including the Pagosa Hot Strings. Jeff has played
with a variety of other famous musicians as well across the US.
