A New Album from Barbara Jo Kammer, the mighty voice of the Front Range
Barbara Jo’s second solo album: Big Blue Sky in The Morning, is due out June 1, 2020.
Anyone who has heard Barbara Jo Kammer sing knows that if you had to pick one word to describe her sound it would be “joyful”. Barbara Jo is well known in the Colorado Front Range jam scene, her vocals often soaring above twenty or so pickers playing full tilt. For those of you who love head-thrown-back-full-on singing out there’s plenty to love here from the bluegrass groove of “Sister’s Coming Home” to the retro country rockabilly of Buddy Holly’s “That’ll Be The Day”.
It is, however, the more mellow tracks that really shine here. The song selection and arrangement is superb. Producer KC Groves has done a fantastic job assembling some of the finest Bluegrass and Americana musicians on the scene today to support Kammer. This perfectly tuned back up is especially noticeable on “Revival” where the music positively shimmers beneath Barbara Jo’s vocals with Darrell Scott joining in on the harmonies.
The opening track “Come From The Heart” is one of the best country records you’re likely to hear, straight from the heart and honest, this tune rings out like a bell. Hearing Ms. Kammer yodeling on the old Eddy Arnold classic “Cattle Call” is worth the price of admission and when you can go from singing with wild abandon to the quiet meditation of a song like the album closer “Carnival” you have a very special record.
