The new single from Aaron Bibelhauser and FY5 “Time in and Out”

This new recording is the beautiful product of the wonders of bluegrass music, where folks meet and friendships begin over miles of highways, different backgrounds, hometowns and musical histories. Where you meet your, not long-lost, just never met yet, brother from another mother. Such is the story of Aaron Bibelhauser and Mike Finders along with the band FY5.

From my vantage point, high in the Rockies of Colorado, the new single “Time in and Out” sounds like Colorado Bluegrass. Just what is Colorado Bluegrass? Music that is inspired by and indeed driven by the passion and creativity of Monroe, Flatt and Scurggs, the Stanley Brothers and other first generation pioneers but under no obligation to sound like a carbon copy of their recordings.

There’s an obvious chemistry between the two writers and all of the musicians that could make one easily believe this was a regular working band rather than two songwriters in different parts of the country sharing ideas back and forth via texts, phone calls and emails. Thank God for technology.

The song tells the story of lovers finding the balance of life, love and work just within and just beyond reach, asking the question “Do we work for a living or live for work?”. The subject matter could be maudlin in lesser skilled hands but there’s a determination in the vocals that promises redemption without stating the outcome explicitly. I feel hopeful hearing this song, identifying with the trails and tribulations as well as the uplifting and inspiring sound.

You can find the new single on all the streaming platforms.
